The snowmobile club that I am a part of requires you to have a radio as the load/unload site is located up a forrest service road, so you need to be able to call up your location and listen for trucks coming down/up the road. The radio wont transmit with channels programmed into it. I guess new firmware in a non current CHIRP build is the issue, but now I'm having another issue.
